Comparison
Kona Compass vs SonarPointer, LiveScanner, and Manual Poles.
How does Kona Compass compare to SonarPointer, LiveScanner, and manual poles? Heading hold, cross-brand compatibility, auto search, and build quality — side by side.
| Parameter | Kona Compass | SonarPointer / LiveScanner | Manual Poles |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transducer control | Motorized, heading-based | Motorized, visual / GPS | Hand-operated only |
| Compatibility | Garmin, Lowrance, Humminbird | Brand-locked | Universal (DIY fit) |
| Operating modes | 4 modes incl. heading hold & auto search | Limited, often 1–2 modes | None |
| Included controls | Wireless remote + control pedal | Often sold separately | None |
| Housing material | 100% stainless steel, zero aluminum | Plastic / composite | PVC / aluminum |
| Orientation system | Built-in, integrated | Requires separate sensor | None |
SonarPointer (S-Pointer) is the closest direct competitor — a motorized rotator with foot pedal and autoscan. It works with select systems but does not offer a built-in heading hold based on an integrated orientation sensor. Cross-brand compatibility is limited.
LiveScanner takes a different approach: it integrates with the trolling motor for hands-free rotation. This requires a compatible trolling motor and does not work as a standalone mount. Anglers who use a different motor or a stationary setup are excluded.
Manual poles (Traxstech, RAM, DIY builds) give universal fit and low cost but offer no motorized control, no heading hold, and no auto search. Every direction change is manual.
Kona Compass is the only motorized transducer rotator with a built-in orientation system, heading hold across all four operating modes, and full compatibility with Garmin, Lowrance, and Humminbird — without requiring a specific trolling motor.
Works with the systems you already use.
Kona Compass works across all three major platforms. Switch sonar brands without replacing the rotator.
